Counselling for individuals
Individuals have problems in their lives too, the world isn't only about couples, and all couples are composed of two individuals with their own unique attributes.
And the biggest relationship anyone ever has is the one with themselves.
And many individuals within a couple have personal issues they wish to discuss.
Whatever you are experiencing, therapy can ease the way forward. The simple act of giving your thoughts and feelings to a stranger can provide enormous relief.
My therapy theory bases are integrative, a person centred* platform with a blend of psychodynamic** and systemic theories***. For individuals, This can be in my usual method of working to a resolution, or a person centred platform where you explore issues to meet your own needs at the time.
* about you, how you think and feel and what it is that you want
** how the past is showing up in the present
***how the systems you move through affect you
Using therapy time for yourself is a great act of self care.
Feeling a bit stuck, a bit bleurgh? Try Coaching - focussing on going to a better future
Using a more coaching based format, therapy can help you to find empowerment, a new confidence and resilience, a new sense of self and a forward trajectory can help you to get back to being you so that empty space inside you becomes a space to be filled with new things. Finding a new version of you, a you that survived the past challenges, a you with renewed hope and a you with space inside to expand yourself to meet the new challenges of the world we live in, so the world happens for us, not to us.
Coaching focuses on what you want to achieve topic by topic (e.g., a project at work rather than whole life change, a communication blip rather than changing your whole set of friends) and the resources you have to achieve this, so it is always about current changes delivering future rewards. It is targeted, effective and usually speedier than a counselling perspective.
Finding happiness again, a sense of purpose and a hopefulness again is an 'inside job', working to inspire and change your own feelings and thoughts to feel more whole again.
Is this a little selfish or self-indulgent? Not at all. In order to feel whole in the world a whole sense of self is needed.
Finding your authentic voice, becoming whole again in yourself, for yourself, allows you to shine out into the world.
